Description
Clapton House, located at 30 St Paul's Street, is a mid-18th century building featuring two storeys and attics constructed from coursed rubble. The larger stones are used at the quoins and around the window surrounds. It has a roof made of stone slates, which includes two gabled dormers and a stone chimney. The building has four windows, which are double-hung sashes with glazing bars and wood lintels. The original door space is blocked, and the house is connected to the adjacent former No 28, which also has two storeys and is built of coursed rubble with stone quoins. This adjacent building has three windows that are hung sashes with glazing bars under wood lintels, along with a 19th-century door featuring three panels, one of which is glass, a rectangular fanlight, a wood lintel, and a moulded wood frame. Clapton House, along with Brazenose College Gate and retaining walls, two barns to the east of No 28, Brazenose School House, and Nos 30 to 33, forms a significant group.
