Description
The Bursar's House, located at 16 St Paul's Street, is a building dating from 1671. It is constructed of coursed rubble and features modern asbestos pantiles on its roof. The structure has two storeys and is marked by two brick chimneys, one of which is modern. There are three windows, including two sliding sashes and one modern casement. The ground floor includes a sliding sash window, a hung sash window, and a modern window, along with two plain four-panel doors. All windows and doors are topped with wood lintels.
Inside, on the first floor, there is a two-bay blind arcade on the west wall that springs from a central head corbel. In the roof space, which is no longer visible, is the lower part of a window. The same room contains a tie beam and braces from the original roof, all dating from the 13th century, which are remnants of an open hall. An inserted chimney stack on the north wall of the hall incorporates reused masonry.
The Bursar's House is part of a group with Nos 7 to 17 on the same street.
