Description
Brazenose School House, part of Stamford School, was built in the early 18th century and is a two-storey building with attics, constructed in ashlar stone. It features a small plinth with a moulded capping and a heavy stone modillion cornice. The façade includes five large hipped dormers, each with double-hung sash windows that have glazing bars. A moulded stone band separates the storeys, topped by a small cornice above the central door. There are six windows, all framed in moulded stone with triple fluted keystones, and two six-panel doors set in panelled reveals, each with a rectangular fanlight adorned with heavy tracery. The south elevation at the back has a garden frontage that includes a chamfered bay extending through both storeys, featuring "Gothic" glazing bars on the hung sash windows. Inside, there is a well-preserved contemporary staircase. Brazenose College Gate and retaining walls, along with two barns to the east of No. 28, and Nos. 30 to 33, form a group with this building.
