Description

No. 8 St. Peter's Hill, which includes No. 1 Castlegate, is an early 19th-century building composed of two houses. It is three stories high with a basement and features a cemented front with a stone cornice and parapet. The roof is hipped and covered with slate. The ground floor has a rusticated appearance, and there is a slightly projecting central block. The building has five windows with glazing bars and slatted shutters on the ground floor, along with a balcony featuring a cast-iron railing above. The balcony's design is similar to those found on the Saracen's Head in Lincoln, the White Hart in Sleaford, and several private houses in the area, including those in Newark. The rear of the house has a plaque that reads "1835 C. Holt."
