Description
The nursery garden walls located north and east of North Lodge in Belton Park date from the early 18th century, with some alterations made in the early 19th century. They are constructed from ashlar, coursed squared stone, and brick, featuring ashlar dressings and a slab coping. The walls stand approximately 2.5 meters high and extend about 250 meters in length.
At the rounded corner where the walls meet Main Street, there is a segment-arched gateway with a keystone and double board doors, which are flanked by square piers topped with shallow pyramidal caps. The section of the wall that borders Main Street, extending to the churchyard wall, includes a central gateway with 19th-century wooden gates, also flanked by square piers that have moulded caps and ball finials. Additionally, on the inner face of the walls, there is a round-headed canopied niche at each end.
