Description
The building is a maltings and oast-house located at the rear of Nos. 31 and 33 High Street in Market Deeping, dating from around 1820. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, topped with Collyweston slate roofs and raised stone coped gables. The structure has four storeys and measures nine bays by nine bays, with the north front arranged in a pattern of 1:2:3:2:1, where the inner paired bays have their own gables. Each floor features two light louvred openings with chamfered and mullioned ashlar surrounds. A planked doorway is located in the center of the first floor. To the left, there is a two-bay, two-storey oast-house with a pyramidal roof that contains the kiln. A painted inscription over a door reads "John Perkins, Licensed Maltster," indicating that he was a maltster in Market Deeping, as recorded in White's 1856 Directory. The maltings was situated opposite the River Welland, which was navigable until around 1860.
