Description
55 St Martin’s is a building dated 1882. It is a stone structure of three storeys with a stone slate roof and a parapet. The front features two three-storey canted bays, each with four lights and arched heads within squared surrounds, decorated with carved spandrels. The bays are finished with Dutch gables and finials. A shield displaying the date is positioned to the right, and a monogram is present to the left. The main doorway has a four-centred arch and a six-panel door, sheltered by a stone hood. Horizontal strings delineate the floors. The building is part of a group with numbers 39-43, the garden wall to number 43, number 44, the wall to number 44, numbers 45-70, the garden wall to numbers 68 and 69, and the Burghley Almshouses.
