Description
This table tomb, dated 1764, is located 4 yards from the south wall of the south aisle in the Church of St Guthlac. It is constructed of ashlar and features a moulded plinth that is bowed at the ends. The tomb has a modillioned cornice that supports a flat top. On the sides, there are rectangular inscription panels that are flanked by scrolled acanthus brackets, commemorating John Thorton who died in 1764. One end of the tomb is adorned with a rococo urn that has gadrooning and a knopped lid, while the other end features a putto reclining on a skull and looking towards the sun.
