Description

Gosberton House Care Home is a former small country house that was built in 1826 for Mrs. Jane Smith and later served as a special school. The building was extended in 1956. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with painted ashlar dressings and features a hipped Westmorland slate roof with lead dressings, a wooden cupola bellcote, and brick wall stacks.

The house has a three-storey, five-bay front with a slightly advanced and pedimented central bay. It has a rendered plinth, a first-floor cill band, and a bracketed eaves cornice. The central entrance features a six-panel door accessed by four semi-circular steps, topped with a traceried overlight. A semi-circular portico, supported by delicate fluted columns and featuring a balustraded top, flanks the entrance with pairs of glazing bar sash windows. The first floor has five similar windows, while the second floor has five smaller windows. All windows are adorned with splayed flat rubbed brick arches and painted ashlar keystones. At the center of the roof, there is an open bellcote topped with an ogee lead roof.

Inside, the building includes dado rails, some fluted architraves, semi-circular arches, and a stick baluster stair.
