Former small country house, special school at time of listing. Built 1826 for Mrs Jane Smith, extended 1956. Red brick in Flemish bond, painted ashlar dressings hipped Westmorland slate roof with lead dressings,wooden cupola bellcote and weather vane, brick wall stacks. Three storey, five bay front with slightly advanced and pedimented central bay. Rendered plinth, first floor cill band, bracketed eaves cornice. Central six panel door up four semi-circular steps, with traceried overlight. Semi-circular portico, supported on delicate fluted columns, with balustraded top, flanked by pairs of glazing bar sashes. To first floor five similar windows. To second floor five smaller windows. All windows have splayed flat rubbed brick arches, with painted ashlar keystones. On the centre of the roof an open bellcote with ogee lead roof.

Interior has dado rails, some fluted architraves, semi-circular arches and a stick baluster stair.
