Description
Bowgate House is a house built in the late 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring stucco dressings and a pantile roof with raised brick coped gables and two gable stacks. The building has two storeys plus a garret and a three-bay front, with the entry bay slightly advanced and topped with a pediment. There is a plinth at the base. The central entrance consists of an eight-panel door set within a fluted wooden pilastered surround, which includes triglyphs, paterae, and dentillations. This entrance is flanked by single canted bay windows with plain sashes, topped by a moulded wooden cornice with brackets and flat lead roofs. On the first floor, there are three plain sash windows with splayed stucco lintels that feature keyblocks. The central pediment above the entrance contains a semi-circular light, also surrounded by stucco.
