Description
Monks Hall Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1729 by William Sands, with significant alterations made in the mid and late 19th century. The building features roughcast rendered brickwork and a slate roof, with raised rendered gables and two red brick gable stacks. It is designed in an L-plan and has two storeys with a three-bay front, which includes a denticulated wooden eaves cornice. The central entrance consists of a half-glazed door with a plain overlight, panelled reveals, and a large segmental pediment with a cornice supported by scrolled and fluted brackets. On either side of the entrance are single canted bay windows with plain sashes, denticulated cornices, and flat lead roofs. The first floor has three plain sash windows with cambered heads and keyblocks. Inside, the farmhouse retains its original pegged clasped purlin roof. The site is moated and was originally a 10th-century cell of Peterborough Abbey.
