Description
The Village Youth Centre, located on the site of Cowleys School, is a former schoolroom block built around 1861. It features red brick in Flemish bond with ashlar dressings, a tiled roof, and stone coped gables. The building has an L-plan layout and is a single storey with a six-bay front. The right-hand bay is advanced and has a separate gable. At the angle of the building, there are two Tudor arched doorways with ashlar surrounds, featuring leaf decoration in the spandrels, and these are covered by a porch with a tiled roof supported by braced timber posts. To the left, there are four ashlar cross mullioned windows, which are subdivided by raked buttresses. On the right, there is a three-light window of a similar style, and in the gable, there is a rectangular leaded light. This building was constructed as an addition to T. Cowley's original foundation established in 1719, serving as a Junior School.
