Description

Town Farm House is a mid-18th century house with some alterations from the early 19th century. It is located on the west side of Church Street, Donington. The house is built of red brick in English and header bonds, with brick coped gables, kneelers, and two large brick gable stacks. It is two storeys high, with a basement cellar and attics, and has a five-bay front arranged as a 1:3:1 composition, with the flanking wings slightly recessed and featuring ramped parapets. Details include a plinth, a first-floor band, and brick dentillated eaves.

The cellar contains three blocked segmental-headed arches and a single glazing bar sash window. The central entrance has a 19th-century six-panel door set upon four steps, with a four-pane overlight, panelled reveals, and a fluted, pedimented doorcase. It is flanked by two margin light sashes. The first floor features three glazing bar sashes flanked by two smaller and lower margin light sashes. All openings have brick segmental heads. The roof has three gabled dormers with fixed glazing bar lights, shaped bargeboards, and slate-hung cheeks, and a catslide to the rear.

The interior includes a stick baluster staircase with a hardwood handrail. There are two full-height panelled rooms, one with a good 18th-century ashlar fireplace featuring panelled sides, a shaped top, and a fluted keyblock.
