Description
The Old House, including the malting house and adjoining outbuildings, garden gateway, and archway, is an early 17th century building constructed from rubble with stone gable ends and a slate roof. It also features some Georgian brickwork. The structure is two storeys high and has four windows with stone surrounds, mostly 19th century sashes. On the ground floor, there are three windows and one blocked window, while a three-light 17th century window with a moulded cornice is located in the gable on the left side of the garden front.
The malting house and adjoining outbuildings include a 19th century window. The garden wall features a rectangular moulded stone gateway with a moulded sloping pediment, complete with coping and three stone ball finials. In the garden, there is a made-up archway of moulded stone, topped with a shield at the center. Additionally, there are fragments from Sleaford Castle, including a 15th century escutcheon depicting kneeling angels. The Old House is part of a group that includes Nos 2 to 8 (even) and Carre's hospital.
