Description

Westholme, now the County Library, is a large house built around 1849 by architect Charles Kirk the younger and builders Kirk and Parry. It is designed in the Chateau Gothic style and is primarily two storeys high, constructed from coursed stone with ashlar dressings. The steep roofs are covered in Welsh slate and feature elaborate iron finials. The building has an asymmetrical design, with a carved cornice, pinnacles, and dragon motifs. It also has very tall cylindrical stone stacks and windows that are mainly mullion and transom. The entrance features a 4-centred doorway and a plinth, with a balustrade leading to the forecourt. Inside, there is carved woodwork in the entrance hall and stairway. Westholme, along with its former stables and lodge, forms a group.
