Description

Digby House is a house of early 18th century origin, with alterations dating to 1769, located on the east side of High Street in Brant Broughton and Stragglethorpe. The construction combines coursed rubble and brick with ashlar dressings, topped by a plain tile roof featuring a brick coped gable, kneelers, and two brick gable stacks. The ground floor is of coursed rubble with ashlar quoins and a chamfered ashlar band; the brickwork above is distinguished by dentilated eaves. The house is two storeys high and has three bays. A doorway, slightly off-centre, has a 20th-century half-glazed door and overlight, sheltered by a 20th-century half-glazed lean-to porch. Flanking the doorway are single glazing bar sashes in staff-moulded surrounds. Above, there are three similar sashes with flat brick heads. A stone plaque inscribed "G B 1769" is positioned above the central window. A lower wing at the rear has primarily 20th-century windows.
