Description
This is a house, originally built in the early 18th century and enlarged in 1791, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of red brick, partially rendered, with pantile roofs, ashlar coped gables and kneelers, and three brick gable chimney stacks. The main east front has three windows and a projecting brick porch with a hipped pantile roof. The porch features a round-headed archway and small round-headed openings to either side. A four-panel, half-glazed door with decorative glazing bars is set beneath an overlight. Single margin-light sash windows flank the door, with curvaceous painted lintels. Above are three smaller sash windows with narrower, curvaceous lintels, the central one inscribed with the date 1791.
The street front is painted and features a blind cross-wing to the right. A rear wing to the left has a half-glazed door with overlight, flanked by single margin-light sashes. Above, a 20th-century casement window is located to the left. The garden front displays a brick gable to the left, indicating the outline of an earlier single-storey gable, with a pair of French doors beneath a plain lintel. A rendered section to the right contains various later windows.
Inside, a late 18th-century staircase has stick baluster details, a moulded handrail, and acorn finials. A round-headed, fitted cupboard remains in a rear reception room, with a reeded pilaster surround, central keystone, panelled doors, and moulded shelves. Most doors are four- or six-panel, set within moulded surrounds. Boxed-in spine beams are present, along with surviving Edwardian fireplaces.
