Description

Nos 26 and 28 on Main Street are a pair of cottages built around 1840 in the Gothick style. They are constructed from coursed limestone rubble and feature a fishscale tile roof with prominent curvy barge boards, along with two octagonal brick ridge stacks. The cottages are single storey with an attic and have a five-bay south front. The central bay contains a pointed doorway with a plank door, flanked by two pointed windows that have Y tracery frames. All these openings are surrounded by plain, bold rubble. Above, there are two gabled dormers, also featuring Y tracery frames and casements. These cottages were built for John William Wing of Ashby Hall.
