Description
Stable block. Built in 1825 and designed by Lewis Vulliamy, it is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings. The building has slate roofs with ashlar coped gables, finials, and four moulded ashlar gable stacks. It features ashlar quoins and is a single storey plus attic. The stable block is arranged in a U shape, enclosed on the south side by iron railings, a gate, and moulded ashlar gate piers. The north range has five sets of double doors in flush ashlar with four-centred arched surrounds. Above the central section is a three-light mullion window set within a stone gable, displaying the date 1825. Wooden gabled dormers with two-light casements are located on either side of the mullion window. The east and west ranges mirror the north range, each containing a set of double doors with four-centred arched surrounds, a three-light mullion window, a four-centred arched doorway with overlight, and another two-light mullion window. A single wooden gabled dormer with a two-light casement sits above, and south-facing gables have single two-light mullion windows. All openings feature chamfered ashlar surrounds and Tudor hoods.
