Description

A pair of houses built in 1878, situated on Bailgate, Lincoln. The basement contains the remains of late 1st century Roman foundations, including columns and walls representing part of the forum frontage. The houses are constructed of brick with stone dressings and a slate roof, featuring a ridge stack. They have a plinth and wooden eaves with pierced brackets. The houses are three storeys high and four bays wide. A near-central basement door has an inscribed lintel and is flanked by single tripartite sash windows. Beyond this is a pair of wooden doorcases with hoods on shaped brackets, containing moulded panelled doors and overlights. Above the doors are two square corniced bay windows, flanked by single plain sash windows. Above these, there are four plain sashes.
