Description
26 and 28 Newland is a pair of houses, now functioning as a club and canteen. They were built in the early 19th century, with some alterations around 1980. The buildings are constructed of brick with a stucco front and dressings, topped with a hipped slate roof that has two side wall stacks.
The structure features a plinth, a rusticated ground floor, quoins, and a cast-iron balcony railing on the first floor. It is three storeys high and has five bays. The symmetrical front includes two wooden Doric porticoes with entablatures and three margin light sash windows. Above these, there are five tall glazing bar sash windows with projecting surrounds and cornices. Finally, there are five smaller glazing bar sash windows with moulded surrounds on the top floor. The interior has not been inspected.
