Description
No. 5 Bailgate is a house that now serves as both a residence and a shop. It was built in the mid-18th century and was refronted in 1902. The building is constructed of colourwashed brick and features a slate roof with a side wall stack. The crowstepped coped gable includes a single pilaster that is dated 1902. The structure has two storeys plus an attic and consists of a single bay.
The entrance is an off-centre recessed glazed door, which is flanked by plate glass windows that have top lights, all situated under a common fascia supported by brackets. Above the entrance, there is a central four-light bow window with glazing bar top lights. Above this bow window, a three-light glazing bar casement window with a segmental head is present, along with a railed balcony. Both of these windows are set within a chamfered segment headed recess that features a keystone. The interior has not been inspected.
