Description
The pair of houses at 5 and 6 Lindum Terrace were built in 1864 for John Smith. They are constructed of grey brick with stucco dressings, topped with a slate roof featuring two gable and two side wall stacks.
The architecture is characterised by a plinth, impost and first-floor bands, bracketed eaves, and pedimented gables. The houses are two storeys high plus attics, with six bays across the front. The south-facing front is symmetrical, featuring recessed central bays flanked by wings, each wing having a canted bay window with a balcony railing. A 20th century French window is found on the left-hand wing. Above the canted bay is a round-headed window with a segmental pediment and eared surround. The central section contains four round-headed windows with keystones, and above these, four segment-headed windows each with a balcony on brackets, an eared architrave, and a keystone. Each end of the terrace has an off-centre doorcase, featuring pilasters, a segmental head, a keystone, and a half-glazed door.
The interiors retain enriched moulded cornices, dogleg staircases with landings, turned balusters, ramped and scrolled handrails.
