Description
Lindum House, now a guest house, dates from around 1840 and is accompanied by an attached garden wall and boundary wall. The building is constructed of ashlar with stucco dressings and features a hipped slate roof, which has three rendered brick ridge stacks and a single side wall stack. The eaves are adorned with modillion brackets. The house is two storeys high and has three bays, forming an irregular L-plan.
The front of the house includes a recessed central bay with a square balustraded porch supported by panelled Doric pilasters. There is a half-glazed door flanked by sidelights and topped with a fanlight. On either side of the central bay are tall glazing bar sash windows, each with a pilaster surround and a cornice on brackets. Above these, there are three smaller glazing bar sashes featuring eared architraves. The set-back left wing, also two storeys, has two smaller glazing bar sashes on each floor, again with eared architraves.
The east front of the house has a bay window on the left and a canted bay window on the right, both extending over two storeys. Inside, there is a plain cantilever dogleg staircase, while the principal rooms boast enriched cornices, plaster panelled walls, and decorative fireplaces.
Externally, to the south-east, there is a coped garden wall approximately 30 meters long, with doorways at each end featuring shaped gables and keystones. To the south, the boundary wall has stepped coping and five square piers, with a gateway on the left flanked by a wicket gate.
