Description

No. 15 Minster Yard is a house built around 1811, which incorporates parts of a medieval building in its south wall and east gable. It was constructed by William Willson, a joiner. The house features ashlar stonework, stone dressings, and a plain tile roof with two rendered gable stacks.

The exterior includes a plinth, modillion eaves, and keystone lintels, along with a moulded string course on the east gable. It is two storeys high with attics and has three bays. The north front showcases a pedimented wooden doorcase with a part-glazed panelled door and overlight, flanked by single glazing bar sashes. Above the door is a smaller sash window with a shield displaying the arms of Buckingham. To the left is a larger sash window, and to the right is a canted wooden oriel window supported by a stone bracket, topped with a dentilled cornice. Above, to the left, is a hipped dormer featuring a two-light casement. The east gable displays a shield with an inscribed cross.

Inside, there is a central entrance hall with an open well stair that has winders, a turned newel, a ramped and scrolled handrail, and two stick balusters per tread. The main ground floor rooms have moulded cornices, later 19th-century wooden fireplaces, and six-panel doors. The corresponding first-floor rooms also have similar cornices and doors. One room on the right features a semicircular shell niche with a moulded round arch and shaped shelf, along with a mid-19th-century marble fireplace. The roof is a 19th-century single purlin type with collars. The stone-lined cellar contains early 19th-century wine bins and reused timber joists.
