Description

Cantilupe Chantry North is a former house for the priests serving the Dalderby chantry, now functioning as a residential property. It dates from the mid to late 14th century, was remodeled in the 18th century, and underwent alterations in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of dressed stone and features slate and plain tile roofs, including an altered cruciform ridge stack and single gable and ridge stacks made of brick.

The exterior has quoins, a rendered eaves band, and a single brick-coped gable. It is two storeys high with attics and consists of four bays. The layout is a double range plan with a cross wing to the southwest. The double north gable has steps leading to a nearly central rendered doorcase with a triangular lintel, which holds a recessed six-panel door with an overlight. To the right of the door, there are two 12-pane sash windows and a six-pane casement below them. To the left, there is a small casement. Above, to the right, is a stone mullioned window with three lights and a hoodmould.

On the east side, there is a small projection in the center with a leaded glazed window, followed by a 19th-century three-light casement and a segmental pointed doorway. To the left, there are two small casements and a glazing bar sash. Above these, there are four 12-pane sashes dating from the late 18th century.

The interior is known to feature a late 14th-century crown post roof running north-south, along with a similar but much remodeled roof running east-west. There is a stone winder stair leading to the basement, with a wooden open well winder stair above that has stick balusters. The main rooms include moulded cornices, fielded six-panel doors, and mid to late 19th-century fireplaces.
