Description

The outer east gateway to Bishop's Palace in Lincoln dates from around 1500 and was built for Bishop William Smith, who served from 1496 to 1514. The structure is made of ashlar stone and features plain tile wall coping, a coved string course, and a crenellated parapet. It is a single-storey building in an L-plan layout. The east side includes a four-centred archway with a hoodmould, while the north side has a small chamfered pointed recess.
