Description
The boundary wall bordering Minster Yard to the south, from No. 16A to No. 17, was rebuilt around 1885, incorporating two late 13th century archways and an early 17th century gateway next to No. 17. It is made of dressed stone with slab and pantile copings, which are stepped above the archways. The larger archway on the left features a 14th century doorway, and both archways have hoodmoulds. To the right, there are a pair of square gatepiers with cornices, wrought-iron gates, an overthrow, and a lamp bracket, which were relocated from the Minster forecourt. The wall has a serpentine layout, stands approximately 2 meters high, and is about 200 meters long. It is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, County No. 115.
