Description
No. 8 Eastgate is a house built around 1796, with later additions from the late 19th century. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a pantile roof with two gable stacks. The building has an eaves band, a coped parapet, and gables. It stands two storeys high, plus a basement and attics, and has three bays. The symmetrical front is accessed by stone steps with an iron railing. The wooden doorcase has pilasters and a six-panel door, topped by a late 19th-century copper-clad pedimented hood supported by brackets. Above the door, there is a glazing bar sash window with a wooden cornice. On either side of the entrance, there are two-storey canted bay windows, each containing three glazing bar sashes on both floors. The roof features three round-headed dormers with sliding sashes. To the right, there is a single bay addition that is set back. The basement includes a glazed door and two glazing bar sash windows. The interior has not been inspected.
