Description
No. 2 Pottergate is a house dating from the 16th century, likely incorporating part of a late medieval rear wing. It underwent extensive remodeling in the early 18th century and was raised in the early 19th century. The building features dressed stone, ashlar, and brick, with stone dressings and roofs that are gabled and hipped, covered with plain tiles. It has two gable and one ridge stacks, a plinth, and chamfered eaves.
The house is two storeys high plus attics and has an L-plan with three bays. The windows are mainly glazing bar sashes. The street front includes a central reeded wooden doorcase with a pediment and a panelled door, flanked by single sash windows. Above this, there are three similar sashes, all of which have been renewed. Above again, there is an off-centre gabled through-eaves dormer featuring a sash window. The south gable has a two-storey hipped lean-to addition with two bays, containing two-light casements, and above this is a segment-headed sash window.
Inside, the house has reused moulded spine beams from the 16th century and a panelled room from the 18th century.
