Description
Pottergate Arch is a Grade I listed gateway located in Lincoln, dating from the mid-14th century. It was restored in 1884 and again in the late 20th century. The arch is constructed of dressed stone and ashlar with a rubble core, topped with a lead roof. It features a stone octagonal corbelled side wall stack, a plinth, and a moulded crenellated parapet adorned with crosslets.
The structure has two storeys and consists of a single bay. The south-east front displays a central chamfered arch with a hoodmould, above which is a paired lancet window. To the left, there is a taller octagonal stair turret with a faceted slab roof. The north-west side mirrors this with a similar arch and includes a chamfered doorway to the right, along with pointed arched windows featuring one and two lights above. The south-west side has a chamfered doorway and a restored three-light window with ogee-headed lights above it.
Pottergate Arch is also recognized as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, listed as County No. 68.
