Description
Withcall House is a house dating from the early 18th century that underwent extensive alterations and remodelling around 1820 and 1840. It is rendered and features hipped slate roofs with deep overhanging eaves and three ridge stacks. The building is arranged in an L-plan. The original house had its rear wing raised in 1820, and the west front was remodelled in 1840.
The south front has three storeys and six bays, with a plinth, pilasters, a second-floor cill band, and deep bracketed eaves. There is an off-centre half-glazed panelled door with flanking lights, which is covered by an Ionic portico supported by paired columns with a dentillated cornice. This is flanked by pairs of bordered sash windows, with a taller similar window to the left. On the first floor, a tripartite window sits above the door, flanked by pairs of glazing bar sashes, with a bordered sash to the left. The second floor features a shorter tripartite window flanked by pairs of glazing bar sashes. Inside, there is a grand staircase from around 1840 that is open well above the entrance hall.
