Description

The Old Rectory, originally built around 1850 by S. S. Teulon for the Hon. & Rev. A. H. Gore, is now a house. It was altered in 1869 by James Fowler of Louth. The building features red and yellow brick with ashlar dressings and has slate roofs with raised stone coped gables, along with single gable and ridge stacks. It consists of parallel ranges and is two storeys plus attics high, with a three-bay front that has a plinth and a dentillated eaves course.

The central bay is slightly advanced and gabled, featuring a two-storey canted bay with glazing bar sash windows. This bay is flanked by single rectangular tripartite bay windows that have hipped slate roofs and lead dressings. On the first floor, the canted bay is flanked by single glazing bar sashes, and all windows have flat brick arches with keyblocks. In the attic, there is a central glazing bar sash window in the gable, flanked by triangular-headed glazing bar sash dormers with figured bargeboards.

The right-hand bay, which is in red brick, is an addition from 1869. On the left side of the front, there is a semi-circular headed glazed door with a keyblock, accompanied by a similar window to the right and a fireplace window designed by Teulon with a moulded rectangular surround. On the first floor, there is a small oriel window with an elaborate rectangular brick surround and a coped base supported by decorative brick brackets. Teulon's original plans indicate that the 1869 extension was intended for a future dining room, and the fireplace window was likely added during construction.
