Description
The Red House is a house built around 1830, located on North Street in Horncastle. It features red brick construction, with some areas covered in colourwashed render and colourwashed stucco dressings. The roof is half gabled and made of slate, with two stacks at the gables. The building has two storeys and a basement, presenting a five-bay front. The rendered plinth includes four small barred basement windows and a band at the first floor level.
The central doorway is set within a porch that has an open pediment supported by slender Doric columns. Steps lead up to the door, which has a semi-circular headed doorcase, a traceried fanlight, and panelled reveals. On either side of the doorway are two glazing bar sash windows. Above, there are five glazing bar sashes, with the central window featuring ornate consoles that support an open pediment. The other windows are adorned with stucco wedge lintels that have voussoirs and raised keystones.
