Description

This is an early 18th-century cottage, with later 19th-century and 20th-century alterations. The walls are a mix of colourwashed mud and stud, red brick (some rendered and colourwashed). The roof is thatched with pantiles, featuring a single central ridge stack where the thatch meets the pantile roof to the north. The cottage is single-storey with an attic, and has a three-bay front. The central bay is of mud and stud construction with a 20th-century glazing bar casement window under a thatched eyebrow dormer with a two-light casement. A colourwashed and rendered brick lean-to extends to the right, featuring a sliding sash window in the north return and a casement with a wooden lintel in the south return. The bay to the left has been re-cased in 20th-century red brick, with a doorway featuring a broad wooden lintel and plank door, and a pantile roof. The south return includes a lean-to, partially of mud and stud and partially of colourwashed brick, with a sliding sash window on the south side and a fixed glazing bar casement on the east end. A 20th-century brick lean-to on the east side, with a narrow fixed light in the south return, is of no particular interest. Southacre House is not included in this listing.
