Description
Surgery Cottage is a house, likely the warden's house for nearby almshouses, built around 1840. It is constructed of stock brick with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof with stone-coped gables, kneelers, and a single ridge stack with two tall angle shafts. The building has a high plinth and is two stories tall with a four-bay front. The right-hand bay projects slightly and has a gable.
To the left, there is a doorway with a shallow triangular head, a chamfered ashlar surround, and a panelled door. This doorway is flanked by a single three-light mullion window. To the right of this entrance is another doorway with a triangular head, a raised keystone, and a long panelled door. There is a blocked opening to the left of this doorway that has a triangular head, a raised keystone, and a small sliding sash window inserted. Above, there are two narrow lights with triangular heads that break through the roofline, and to the right, there is a pair of narrow lights with triangular heads and plain sashes.
