Description
The almshouses, built in 1864, are located on Byttom Hill in Mickleham. They are constructed from flint with stone quoins and dressings. The building features a prominent central wing that is two storeys high and has three windows. Each window bay is topped with a gable that has bargeboards. Above the central wing, there are two three-light casement windows and one one-light window in the middle. Below, there is a four-centred arched doorway with a door that has a hipped tiled hood above it. A stringcourse runs along the building. Flanking the central wing are single-storey wings, each with two windows and a central doorway. The stringcourse rises above all the ground floor windows, creating a hood-mould effect. The windows have stone dressings and feature hexagonal and diamond-shaped panes. There are tall chimney stacks grouped in threes on either side of the central wing.
