Description

WEST TORRINGTON MAIN STREET TF 18 SW (north-west side) 1/51 Gravestone of T.W. Mossman G.V. II Gravestone of T. W. Mossman. 1885. Limestone ashlar. Oblong gravestone with barely legible inscription running round border. Cross inscribed with small circle containing cross at centre and at each termination. T. W. Mossman, vicar of West Torrington and responsible for the restoration of the church, was an important and controversial figure in the Oxford Movement, correspondent of Cardinal Newman, founder of Brotherhood training poor men for the priesthood, noted historian, active Liberal politician and crucial figure in the early Oecumenical movement.
