Description
The gravestone of T. W. Mossman, dating from 1885, is made of limestone ashlar and features an oblong shape. The inscription around the border is barely legible. It includes a cross inscribed with a small circle at the center and at each end. T. W. Mossman was the vicar of West Torrington and played a significant role in restoring the church. He was a notable and controversial figure in the Oxford Movement, a correspondent of Cardinal Newman, and the founder of a Brotherhood that trained poor men for the priesthood. Additionally, he was a noted historian, an active Liberal politician, and an important figure in the early Ecumenical movement.
