Description
Abbey Farm House is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the early 18th century, 19th century, and 20th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a pantile roof with brick coped gables and kneelers, along with gable stacks. The building has parallel ranges and is two storeys high with garrets, showcasing a first-floor band and a dog tooth eaves course. Originally, the front had five bays, with blocked openings still visible, while three bays were altered in the 19th century. The central entrance features a 20th-century half-glazed door with a large hood, flanked by single margin light sash windows. On the first floor, there are three similar windows, all with segmental heads. The rear range has undergone significant alterations, but large stones at the base may indicate remnants of an earlier timber-framed structure. Inside, there is a moulded oak beam in the front range and a fine dog leg stair with three turned and knopped balusters per tread, moulded handrails, and a carved string. The roof has largely been renewed in the 19th century.
