Description

The cross located on Main Street in West Torrington dates back to the 14th century, with later additions from 1700 and 1892. It is made of limestone ashlar and features three steps, of which the lower two are from the 19th century. The central step is inscribed with a dedication to Reverend T. W. Mossman and his wife Anne. The upper step and the shaft of the cross have chamfered corners and date to the 14th century, with the upper part inscribed with the year '1700'. The cross has a moulded necking and cap, topped with a 19th-century gabled cross that depicts the crucifixion on the west side and the Virgin and Child on the east side.
