Description
The Manor House is a house dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century, mid 19th century, and extensions added in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is constructed of rendered coursed chalk rubble and red brick, topped with pantile roofs, decorative ridge tiles, stone coped gables, and ball finials. The house has an H-plan layout and is two stories high with a three-bay front. The outer bays are advanced and gabled, while the central bay is also gabled.
The entrance features a half-glazed central door with a pilastered surround and a glazed lean-to conservatory. On either side of the door, there are tripartite glazing bar sash windows on each floor, which are set within projecting gabled bays. Above the door is a semi-circular headed window. To the left, there is an additional gabled bay built in late 19th century brickwork. The rear of the house has later additions, including a semi-circular stair projection made of red brick with a semi-circular headed stair light.
Inside, there is a late 15th century semi-circular staircase with two symmetrical flights and elegant narrow turned balusters. The stair hall features an elliptical arch, and the joinery is decorated with scalloped edges and floriated details. There is also a late 18th century fireplace and one stop-chamfered beam in the hall.
