Description

The Sibsey War Memorial is situated in the churchyard of the Church of St Margaret, which is a Grade I listed building. It is located to the west of the church and faces the Old Main Road, near the remains of the churchyard cross, which is also scheduled and Grade II-listed. The memorial is surrounded by chains that are suspended from posts on a low brick and concrete wall.

Constructed from light-colored stone, the memorial features a Latin cross with a bronze crucifixion attached to its western face. The cross rises from a square shaft that is set on a two-stage, square plinth, which in turn rests on a two-stepped base. Grey slate plaques are affixed to the western faces of the plinth and steps.

The plaques are inscribed with silvered lettering. The main dedicatory inscription on the west face of the plinth reads: "THIS/ MEMORIAL WAS ERECTED/ BY/ PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION/ TO COMMEMORATE/ THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919/ AND THE SECOND GREAT WAR/ 1939-1945/ ALL HONOUR TO THOSE/ WHO SERVED." Below this, on a sloping stone placed on the top step of the base in 2015, are the names of 13 individuals who died in the First World War, dated 1914-1919. The lower stone lists the names of eight individuals who died in the Second World War, with the dates 1939-1945.
