Description

Grundy's Court is a building that originally comprised three shops and is now two houses. It dates from the late 18th century, with alterations made in 1810 and the 20th century. The structure is made of red brick, with some areas featuring colourwash and colourwashed render. It has a pantile roof with stone-coped gables and gable stacks.

The building has a three-storey, five-bay front, with ground floor shop fronts dating to 1810. There is a central doorway leading to a through passage, which features a semi-circular headed doorway. To the left of this passage, there is a doorway with flanking reeded pilasters, a blind overlight, and a 20th-century ornate panelled door. To the right, there is a two-light flush shop window flanked by reeded pilasters, along with a small 20th-century casement window set high in a blind panel.

To the right of the through passage, there is another flush two-light shop window with flanking pilasters, followed by a blocked doorway with flanking pilasters and an overlight. Another flush two-light shop window is located to the right, flanked by pilasters, with a doorway beyond that includes pilasters, an overlight, and a panelled door. A continuous moulded entablature runs the full length of the two shop fronts, with the date '1810' inscribed above the through passage doorway.

On the upper floors, there are three glazing bar sash windows to the left, with two fixed 20th-century plate windows to the right, all featuring wedge lintels and segmental heads. Above these, there are two plain sashes with wedge lintels and segmental heads, on either side of a semi-circular stucco niche adorned with a flaming urn.
