Description
No. 12 (P.J. Bedford) is a house and shop located on the west side of South Market Place in Alford. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone minor alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of colourwashed brick and features a hipped slate roof supported by paired moulded brackets, with one stack on the rear wall.
The front of the building is three stories high and consists of three bays, with bands separating the first and second floors. The central entrance is a four-panelled door that is accessed by a step, and it has a plain overlight above. To the right of the door is a plain shop window framed by a thin wooden pilastered surround, while to the left is a glazing bar sash window. On the first floor, there are three similar windows, and on the second floor, there are three smaller sash windows. All windows are topped with painted splayed lintels.
