Description

Nos. 12 and 14 on South Street in Alford are a pair of cottages built in 1819, with some minor alterations made in the 20th century. The cottages are constructed of red brick and feature a hipped roof made of slate and concrete tiles, which has deeply overhanging eaves and a tall central ridge stack. The front of the building is two stories high and consists of four bays. It has a short plinth and includes two 20th-century half-glazed doors at either end, with one plain sash window and one sliding sash window in the center. All window and door openings are topped with brick labelled hood moulds. On the first floor, there are two sliding glazing bar sashes positioned beneath the eaves. At the rear of the cottages, there is a datestone inscribed "TJ 1819".
