Description
The London Road Gatehouse and Signals Cabin is a gatehouse and signals cabin built in 1884. It is constructed of red brick with blue brick dressings and features a slate roof with blue angle raised ridges and a terracotta pinnacle atop its pyramid roof. The building has an octagonal plan and is a single storey structure with a plinth and a moulded eaves cornice. Each face has a sliding sash window with glazing bars, except for the entrance on the north side, which has a half-glazed door accessed by two steps. Inside, the cabin contains a 12-lever Saxby and Farmer frame. This gatehouse and cabin are responsible for controlling the Swing Bridge, which was built to connect the docks to the single track railway.
