Description
Haven House is a warehouse that was occupied by Hurst and Sons, located in South Square, Boston. The building dates back to the 15th century and was rebuilt in 1810, with some 20th-century features. It is constructed of squared limestone and red brick, topped with a slate roof and stone coped gables.
The exterior consists of six storeys and a six-bay gabled front. The ground floor features stonework with a band at the top. To the left, there is a 20th-century segmental arched opening with recessed entrance doors, and to the right, four 2-light 20th-century casement windows. The first, second, and third floors have six similar casement windows. The fourth and fifth floors are located within the gable and have four and two openings, respectively, all with segmental brick arches. The returns and the riverside elevation display similar window arrangements, with the riverside also featuring central doors and 20th-century iron balconies.
The interior was not inspected. Historically, the stonework of Haven House is part of the medieval Gysors Hall, which was destroyed in 1810 when the warehouse was constructed.
