Description
The Sam Newson Music Centre is a warehouse, now functioning as a music centre, dating from the late 18th century and altered in 1978. It is constructed of red brick in English bond with a hipped pantile roof. The river-facing side features two half-hipped gable ends with stone copings.
The building has three storeys with an attic. The north elevation consists of six bays, featuring double planked doors beneath a segmental arch, with two casement windows to the left and three to the right. The first and second floors have similar arrangements but include a narrower planked door. There are five boarded flat-topped dormers on the roof.
The east elevation facing South Street has seven bays, with a doorway at the left end that includes a keystone. The river elevation mirrors the window arrangement of the north side, with boarded doors on each floor beneath the two hip ends. All windows are 2-light casements with brick segmental arches.
The warehouse is located on Packhorse Quay, which was a central and busy part of the harbour during the late 18th century when Boston port experienced significant growth.
