Description

Town Bridge is a road bridge built between 1806 and 1808 by John Rennie, which was largely rebuilt in 1913 by John Webster. It features cast-iron and ashlar construction. The stone bases from 1807, which have plain paired pilasters, still remain. The bridge has a single span with an elliptical arch made of cast-iron from 1913, and it includes a decorative openwork parapet with pierced roundels. The location of the bridge was slightly moved south from the sites of 18th century and earlier bridges, and a new street named Bridge Street was created in 1807.
