Description
Number 34 and warehouse is a shop and warehouse built in 1817, with alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features gabled and hipped slate roofs, with lined stucco.
The exterior facing the Market Place has a three-storey, three-bay gabled front. The ground floor is stucco, with a band at the second floor and a brick corbelled gable. There is a 20th-century shop front, three windows on the first floor, and two smaller two-light casements on the second floor. The windows have wedge rubbed brick arches. In the gable, there is a blank roundel painted with 'ESTD 1820'.
At the rear, on the riverside, there is a five-storey, five-bay warehouse featuring a central full-height recess with loading hatches, flanked by pairs of small two-light casements. The interior has not been inspected. This building is likely to be the London warehouse established by the Corporation on Packhorse Quay, which included offices for pilots and wharfingers.
